M103 oil leak
I am wondering if I could get some insight into an issue I am having with my friends 300e.
Ive been helping a good friend of mine get his newly acquired 300e on the road. Before we bought the car, I found a MB receipt for a new head gasket on the car, but it didn't state the mileage it was done at. After getting the owner info from our DMV, which states mileage declared a "x" date, I have determined that the car had the head gasket replaced around 25,000km ago. SO that was good. I wondered why the engine had some oil residue on the passenger side. So I was assuming it was from the previous bad head gasket.
Anyways, this week we finally got the car on the road, and we have both been taking the car for a spin putting some km on it before I go for emissions tests. However there's been something that begun bothering me. Right after a hwy run, and we come to a stop, a strong smell of burning oil would make its way into the cabin, sure enough a look under the hood, and noticeable oil was spraying from somewhere, but I at first couldn't find the source. Worst case I was hoping it wasn't the head gasket, best case I was hoping it was the valve cover gasket.
Well tonight after closer inspection ive determined that the chain tensioner bolt is leaking. I tried tightening it, and its on there pretty tight, I couldn't fit my torque wrench in there, and didn't want to over do it.
Question I have for you guys, is it ok for me to pull the plug out and hope that springs don't come flying out, so I can put a new crush washer on it. its leaking between the crush washer and the plug head, not the engine casting.
Anyone know the torque value for the bolt as well. It has a 12mm hex head on it. Is this a common issue?
