Though I have yet to replace one mbjtc (and now have two diesls that need them), from what I understand the engine shock primarily controls the amount of 'bucking' when you shut the engine down. This can be very pronouced, and make the car seem unrefined, but I'm not really sure what kind of damage you are causing. Just helps smooth the whole thing out to how it should be
Also, it's a fairly easy replacement, so if you're so inclined, I'd go for it....
