A friend who sold wholesale told me several years ago each manufacturer sells about five different quality levels of their tires. So, for example, a Michelin could be a very good tire or a very marginal tire, depending on which level you bought. No surprise Wal-Mart gets the lowest price and quality versions available.

Anyone here in the tire business who could confirm?
