1983 300SD tranny replacement diary

I might as well keep notes online

Day 1

Disconnect battery

Release tranny dipstick from intake manifold, have to loosen adjacent banjo bolt for access

Release pressure control/Bowden cable

Drop exhaust = remove nuts at turbo (easy), remove nuts at bell housing bracket (easy), remove rubber hangers, pull exhaust, severs at flex joint (sigh)

Day 2

Remove crossmember between guide rod mounts

Drain tranny pan and torque converter = 5 quarts (uh oh, but car rolls with tranny in P so it has to come off)

Detach tranny cooler lines at tranny and cooler line brackets closes to bell housing

Remove flex plate bolts

Remove prop shaft heat shield

Stare at front flex disk, call it a day
