If that is the case and you still have the other front wheel apply pressure then you have a blocked brake line to the wheel you are repairing. Does the open line spray brake fluid when you pump the brakes? does the other front wheel displace brake fluid if you try to bleed it?

reason to say is that hydraulics require a stoppage to work. If you have brakes at the front then there is quite a clog somewhere.

reason to mention the "other front wheel" is that MB split brakes as front and rear which is also mentioned on the master cylinder as V and H, vorne and hinten (front and rear)

I suspect the ABS pump to be having a clog in the circuit going to the faulty wheel. try tapping with a rubber mallet.
