Totally second the fuse number 5 thing. I have a 1994 E320 with only 138k (Alaska) miles on it and one day I was driving down the road and noticed that all of my gauges were dead except for the speedo. Decided to pull over, shut off the car, wait a few and restart to see if it was just a blip. When I went to restart it, it wouldn't turn over, but all other electrics were working. Couldn't get it out of park either. After checking a few things I was pretty sure I was going to have to call a tow truck, but before I did I googled the problem and sure enough, someone suggested fuse #5. I popped the fusebox open and as soon as I touched number 5 the connection crumbled. Replaced it on the spot and was good to go.
