The bike is going to be fixed, but because it's a limited edition (Hayden Edition - 1 of 150 produced) parts are crazy expensive. Not to mention I'm still waiting on the parts to get here to see if she still starts. |
Damn dude. A 50 foot slide is a lot. How did you manage to do that? More importantly, how are you?
My worst offs to date were:
1. (Worst damage to bike) I overcooked a corner in the dark and left the pavement at around 55 mph. I went into a sagebrush field and decided to just keep the bike up as long as I could. I bounced a good hundred yards into the field and came to rest still on the bike with it stuck between a couple of bushes. I destroyed the right side fairings, lost the left front turn signal, and managed to get a puncture in the coolant reservoir. I was able to self recover and ride it home. Damage to me was a sore thigh on one side and a bruised thigh on the other.
2. (Worst damage to me) Riding with a bit of enthusiasm, but not really that fast, I came up to a stop sign, braked for it, heard a skidding sound and had just enough time to wonder what it was before I went down on the right side. Turns out there was some sand in the road that I didn't see. Damage to the bike was a wrecked right upper fairing. Damage to me was road rash on my right knee that took a few weeks to heal (I still have scars) and a pain in my back that I thought might have been a broken rib. I got help getting the bike up and rode it home. It turned out not to be a broken rib and that pain was gone after I slept for the night. I made some reasonable-ish assumptions about the length of the slide (5 ft or so) and the coefficient of friction of a bike on its side on asphalt and estimated that I was doing all of about 6 mph when I hit the pavement.
