I've found that before you clamp down the two bolts to lock the NSS in place, you first should move the shifter into Neutral gear, then slide the NSS as far to the left as its oval shaped bolt eyes will allow. Then tighten both bolts and re-test by shifting into Park gear and make sure it starts as expected. Turn the car off. Shift into Neutral and make sure that it also starts there.
