So my drivers manual window has always been dreadfully hard to wind up and down since I bought the car. Also the opening latch was broken and hanging down. Still worked but looked crappy. Common problem on the older cars. Also my door panel looked like crap with 35 years of dirt, oil and grime on it. I removed the panel and cleaned it. Replaced the latch with one I'd got from a junkyard and then set to work on the window mechanism.

I cleaned the congealed grease out of the tracks, mechanism and teeth as much as I could with rubbing alcohol and Hoppes No9 gun cleaning solvent. That alone made a huge difference to the ease with which the mechanism worked. Then I re-lubed as much of it as I could get to with synthetic grease (Mobil 1). As much as needed in the tracks and on the teeth.

It's almost like a new door now. Window slides up and down with minimum of effort on the handle and the door looks a thousand times better now that its clean. I'm going to tackle the other doors and windows when I get a chance. They are not nearly as bad as the drivers door but I'd like to have them all as good as they can be.
