I would be very careful. I recently sold a 1984 190d and if I decide to buy another one, it will be a newer model. I had transmission and A/C problems with mine. The 190d is faster than the old 240d, but in my opinion, the 240 is hard to beat for durability. Even if you can buy this car for $1000, if you end up replacing a tranny, your investment just increased by another $1500 to $2000. It might be hard to recoup this amount if you decide to sell later.
