Trying to revive my father's garaged 240D. Started right up with a new battery after a long sleep, preceded by some gentle turning over with an old battery.

Engine ran great, but had a Horrible screeching noise which I believe to have been complaining bearings of a misaligned alternator. A closer look revealed spinning washers and lockwashers beneath loose nuts (1/2" slack underneath loosened nut on pivot bolt), elongated holes in alternator housing, worn bolt threads, and a not cracked, but BROKEN-OFF lower tab on cast aluminum alternator mounting bolted to engine block, which the alternator bracket attaches to. (Yes, I found my father's old posts on this forum about alternator mountings...seems to have been a problem area for him.)

Would really like to find a used cast aluminum alternator support mounting locally. See them on EBay in California but wondering if any of you can recommend a more local / quick source. I've tried Star Motors and German Auto in Charleston, SC. Any other ideas welcomed.
