I received my new 75c thermostat to install in my '72 w108 4.5.

I noticed the there is a "rattle" sound inside thermostat when I hold it, almost like there is a loose component inside. Is this normal? Is there a way to check if thermostat functions correctly before I go the effort of installing it?
