I had a roof done a few months ago. Personally I wouldn’t put a 2nd layer on as it’s a less than ideal solution. The roofer pulled off the original roofing, found a few sheets of plywood to replace along the way then did the new roof. Took them 3 days total.

I paid them with an AMEX card after the roof was complete. I love AMEX for the ultra high customer service they provide. But in any event, use a CC as it provides a layer of recourse in the event of a problem that cash/check doesn’t provide. If they want to charge extra for using a CC tell them you’ll find another roofer.
