After having been a W124 only driver for the past 25 years, I finally made the jump to a newer chassis, 2003 W208, CLK 430 Cabrio. Yes, it's the last year of the W208. I figured that they'd have all the kinks figured out by then. I seem to have been right so far.
I must say that it's a nice car to own. It seems to have only a slightly less solid ride as my 90 300E and doesn't have the same build quality, but it's very close. More importantly, it has the creature comforts of a modern car and provided it without a lot of issues. My convertible only came with three issues: a bad driver's side rear window regulator, a passenger seat that wouldn't move, and top that had one broken cable (there are two that operate the top). Excellent paint and interior for a 200K mile car, no OBD2 issues and passed CA smog easily. Given the issues, the price I paid was a steal- about the same price as a 92 300E without issues. The top could only be fixed by a MB pro for $400, I fixed the rest over one weekend and for less than $200. Done! I've had it for 3 months now- not one other issue. Now the rains have come and still no issues. BTW, the rain sensing windshield wiper system and heated seats, I didn't know what I was missing!
Since I just recently sold my R129 and W124, I'll be looking for another early 90's MB, but given the W208 thus far, not in any real hurry
