I am pretty sure the later 410D used the 2.9L version of the OM602 but in N/A form.

The answer to the OPs question is probably swapping in a 2.5L OM602 turbo and tweaking that a little bit. They did 2.9 turbos but it was in the W210 and used an electronic pump and wasn't really rated at much more HP than the 2.5, but I guess the lower torque would be good for a truck. However after 8 years he either sold the truck to lferrmerc or got over it. So I guess this is all irrelevant.
