Pretty sure my 300SD automatic and 240D manual flywheels were/are neutral balanced. That, or I'm the luckiest SOB on the planet as I just bolted on the 240D flywheel and all was well (guess I had a 1 in 12 chance, right?). I've read about the balance issues but I wonder which specific models were externally balanced. There must be a chart somewhere with engine/transmission numbers, etc. That info sure would make it easier for us engine swappers.
