I don't know if this will help, but here is a pic of my solution.

The cable is from an early 1990s F150.
Since you do not have AT, you could pull directly from the IP lever, similar to what Dan has done. You can also use the F150 accelerator pedal, although it will take some fabrication. The cable snaps in to the pedal assembly.
Takes some fabrication, but it is a cheap salvage yard alternative.
