Could be a bunched up chain but I doubt you would have been able to link it together if it was bunched up much. You may be able to drop the lower oil pan and see it bound up. Removing the upper pan would allow you to see a little more but it is a task.

You did see this motor run yourself correct?

Was replacing the chain what started the unable to turn situation?
