There is a guy on the Studebaker forum who has hot rodded a Packard v8 though (Friggin wild man!). Most of the guys over there running the older v8s tend toward blown Studies.

Most of the street rodded Studes run Chebby mouse motors. I used to hate Chebbys in old cars but now having rebuilt a few oddballs the chebbys make a ton of sense and I feel more tolerant of them.....not tolerant enough to put one in my truck though
SBC's fell out of favor with me some years back - the only engine rebuild I ever did that failed - repeatedly. Still don't know exactly what went wrong but I built it out of a parts pile and I'm wondering if there was something wrong with the distributor that allowed the oil not to get al the way to the bottom end even though it showed oil pressure.

But to me the big thing is that they're belly buttons - everybody has one (or more). I like the weird stuff. My V8 Vega had a Buick 215, my big Chevy pickup had a 455 Buick, my S-10 has a Mercedes Diesel, etc. When I open the hood on my special project vehicles I want to see something special.
