If you're new to working on this generation MB and you're planning to keep this one for a while I recommend getting an icarsoft i980 or MBII scanner. It can read and delete codes from every computer in the car just like the STAR diagnostic tool.

I just picked up a really cheap c320 wagon with a "broken" transmission and I use the i980 to bring it out of limp mode. It's shift beautifully.

Let me know what you lean about the lifter issue. I'm new to the M112 and it shares most components with the m113.
