Those bushings are a PITA to work with. I actually have luck using a pry bar in conjunction with some wood bracing and a socket big enough to let the bushing fall into. Brace things in along the transmission tunnel, and use the pry bar as a lever to force the bushing in. It helped me to heat the bushing in some hot water to make it pliable, and of course, lube it up.
