I have change a couple of those units which had broken nubs and honestly I do not believe this could be done without taking it off the car.

I had no problem putting the new until on and no trouble with the screws. I'v read that if you mark around the base of the strike it's a lot easier to get everything line up to work but I just snatched the defective ones off and slapped the new ones back on. They've been on the car for about two or three years now without issue.

Of course my car is a w126 so it might be tougher on another body.
