Seeing I had this question today, I thought I would piggyback tday happenings on 85 300D on this old thread.
For past week or so, I noticed that my brakes, although solid, were not stopping car as well as usual. I was guessing glazed pads or even fluid leaking from calipers.
Today, the red brake light came on. Crawled back home and checked levels. Front compartment looked empty. Rear just below min mark.
Brakes don't have too many miles on them. Front calipers were replaced a couple of years ago. New hoses all round and all lines were checked and new cunifers installed at rear. No drips on driveway recently, but I did recall seeing a drip near rear a month or so ago. Thought it was the diff.
Anyway, checked everything and didn't notice anything unusual. Disconnected MC and checked for fluid in booster. Nothing there.
Filled reservoir and hooked up pressure bleeder. Pumped to 15psig, Gauge quite steady, but lost about 0.05 psi over 1/2 hr. To be expected, I thought. Finally went over all lines again and noticed that one compression fitting at Tee at rear had a small drip. I was able to get about 1/8 of a turn on it. Washed off fitting. Re-pressured and left it like that. No drips yet!
Puzzled why rear compartment would be down. Only possibility of a leak at front would be caliper. Or maybe pads have just worn. Guess I need to pull front wheels!
