For what it's worth, the alignment shop here that does work for the local independent Mercedes shop immediately told me when I took in a W126, that front end shake NEVER has anything to do with the front suspension, and it's ALWAYS wheels and tires (even though the car had tires that were installed and balanced less than a year ago and we even switched the front wheels to the rear and had the same problem and the tire shop even said that the tire balance was perfect).
