Slight clarification on this post.

If you have the "standard" parallel prong 110 V outlet then its maximum rating is 15 amps.

If your wiring is 12 Ga. ,with a 20 amp circuit breaker and 20 amp outlets then 20 amperes of A.C. voltage are available.

Many shop outlets are 20 amp. You can't replace a 15 amp outlet with a 20 amp and think you are getting 20 amps and you shouldn't replace a 20 amp with a 15.
