I just bought a w210 key at my local dealer earlier this month. It was ~350 which included the key remote and the little cut key. At $700 for the entire car, the price of a new key was already factored in, so don't worry about it.

The dealer will give you the newer style chrome key with the red triangle panic button. Your coworkers will all see it and think you bought a new car, lol. For the w210 models, they do not need to keep the car - they only need to read the VIN number from it, and get a copy of your drivers license and registration (to make sure you didnt steal the car) to place the order for the new key. The key will take 3 or 4 days to come in, and then you go pick it up.
