Is It TRUE That Full Synthetic Oil Is Over Kill On Older IDI Diesels?

After doing hours of reading on BobIsTheOilGuy, I've realized all but a handful of "full synthetic" oils are actually dino based. Including Mobil 1 and Rotella T6(what I currently use).
I'm only interested in group v and up.

Being that soot is the limiting factor for our older engines, is there really a point of using something like Amsoil Signature series oil?

The soot levels would cut it off short long before we can get the most out if correct, even for the newer 60x engines right?

Curious because I was considering buying this stuff.

Don't forget to grease the screw and threads on the spring compressor.
