Many printers are shipped with partial ink cartridges (read: it's a trap).
If this is the case, a replacement cartridge should be good for several hundred pages.

I'd make sure this isn't the case before you dismiss the printer you currently have because as I said, many printers pull this scam and thus you'll get poor performance out of the box once again.
