My cousin has been a computer geek since HS when they had punch cards. He was working for HP when they made the decision to sell the printer cheap and create an annuity by selling expensive ink.

You can go with a laser printer if willing to pay more for the printer and less per page for the ink. It's the old break even dilemma. Most printers should work reasonably well when running Win 10. Some of the newer machines will need drivers written if you're running a flavor of Linux. Of course, you'd be posting on a computer forum were you off Microsoft.
