This may not be for everyone but I bought a HP all in one Office Jet Pro and I signed up for the HP instant ink program. I pay about $2 per month for 50 pages and if I go over that there is a small per page charge. They automatically send ink to my door when the machine reports low or even if the ink is getting close to expiration. Of course the machine is online so they know the status of your ink.
I love it, I used to get so tired of having to stop what I was doing and go buy ink, this is way better for me. (If you are one of those who is afraid of "big brother watching" this may not be for you)

Regarding the laser printer suggestion, I was going to do just that till the guy at Office Depot explained how inkjet printers have gotten so good and so cheap it doesn't make sense to buy a laser anymore when you can get a great inkjet for around $100 and even if it lasts 5 years you're still money ahead over the purchase price of a laser. Not to mention the cost of laser cartridges.

oh, and I always print out Mercedes related diesel repair diagrams.
