We had Lexmarks at work for several years. They were terrible. Jammed all the time, issues with the cartridges not working (OR NOT FITTING!!!!), and strange print quality issues that we never could work out.
They got replaced by a medium-duty HP in 2009 and we're still using it 300K pages later and no repairs. Unbelievable performance from a $500 "SOHO" style printer.
HP also does the paid return thing. They have a program you can join where you get discounts for returning used cartridges too. Saves about 10% off the cost of genuine supplies.
