Tank capacity is quoted in liters but further on the MB manual states mpg, or at least this was the first reference.

Come on guys doesn't take much to work it out, the only thing to watch for is Imperial v US gallons which are different.

It looks like the gauge or float has stuck, guessing this is pretty common on 26 year old cars - may opt to swap out sender next year.
