that link is the new E500, not the early 90s 500E. same engine?

well, all this gets me to thinking if the E420 doesn't work out, which i have doubts about, how much are early 90s 500E? are they total nightmares as far as maitenance, or just about on SHO level? although honestly, i wish they made it with a stick shift.

although the 500E is meant to be much more than a drag car, i bet with some headers, intake, cams and some gears (most important), that bastard would run over many an american muscle car at the strip

yeah, the crank position sensor it a PITA in the SHO. the water pump will start to leak after 80-85k, then it drips hot coolant right on the friggen sensor. that's why it shorts out. i just replace the crank sensor, cam sensor and tps every 60k when i do the valve lash adjustment (just like a motorcycle, eh?) this way, i don't have to worry about getting stranded. besides, the sensors are pretty cheap.

i live in oakland, ca.

i saw a new lancer EVO8 drag at sears point. he couldn't drive. he was doing 14.3 ets. i think they are around 13.8 if you do a clutch drop at redline. i don't know man, even at 13.8, it's nothing your 500E can't do with more style (maybe with a couple of bolt ons for good measure).

you gotta figure an overhead cam 5 liter engine making only 302 HP has a lot of potential to be discovered. i guess it would benefit mainly from mustang like mods, headers, X pipe and some gears. wha do you think?

see ya,
Robby
