Five hundred thousand Volkswagon golf electric cars to be produced in China this year. None for export to north America or Europe They are the logical country to produce electric cars in volume for many reasons.
Asia in general is well on the way to be a signifigant powerhouse. Special interests in north America may limit the amount of electrics we see. Same interests that may have made access to the diesel cars. Not available in north America at the time they obtained a very high percentage of worldwide sales.
Technically they should be cheaper than our current cars to produce. Plus cheaper to buy. Plus far cheaper to maintain. We do not have many of them up here in eastern Canada.
Although a local owner claims enough charging stations already exist that he can travel in the region. The same individual also claims graphine batteries are coming and should be another improvement. I can buy lower current capacity small ones out of China for some time now.
