That's been my thought. I can only imagine that primitive groups who had never seen fire were shocked and amazed at the sight of forest fires. To say nothing of the touch. God only knows what sort of fire-making experimentation took place by early humans who witnessed forest fires.

I can only imagine that the first person in any tribe or region who managed to produce a controlled fire by spinning a stick in the hands became a sort of rock star or chieftan.

I've also read that about cooking food, also apparently gaining the ability to successfully hunt game on a regular basis was part of that. It's a harsh reality for people who think vegetarianism and/or raw foods will set them free, or exalt them somehow.
