How many miles on the car? These transmissions are not known for longevity. My 300TE had a destroyed 2nd gear band at less than 138,000miles (when I bought it, fixed the engine issues and found it was skipping 2nd). If the fluid hasn't been changed at the proper intervals, you may well be looking at a rebuild.
