300D - Stall Problem

I just paid over $800 to Mercedes Dealer to have basically all fuel lines replaced when car appeared to have a fuel starvation problem and would not even sputter. The car had no real problems before that - just came out one morning and it was as if there was no fuel to the injectors at all. The car is a 96 - 300D with 145,000 miles on it.

Subsequently - (Within two weeks) - I was sitting at a red light and the engine stopped completely. It was as if the key was just switched to the off position - No shuttering, no RPM fluctuation - just dead off. PLaced car in Park and car started immediately.

The Mercedes dealer said possibly imperfection in the fuel or water in the fuel caused this problem. I find this hard to believe and feel that I probably got taken for a good amount in unnecessary repairs and the dealer doesn't want to admit it.

I did ask the dealer about relays and the fuel pump but they insist that this is not the problem.

Any thoughts?
