My 1984 euro 300d also came with a 240d radiator. It was well past it when I bought the car and had to put a new 240d radiator in. I live in Phoenix, AZ and it still cools fine. If you wanted to, you could put a 300d turbo radiator in and just mount the expansion tank. I've seen several people do this.
