To be technically correct, the 1995 E300 diesel had ASD as an option, not ASR.

ASD is the hydraulic system that locks up the differential if a certain amount of slip is detected in the two rear wheels.

ASR is the electronic system which slows the electronic throttle if slip is detected, an option on the gas 124 cars.

When the wheel speed sensor went on my 300E TD lost steering as well
