I had it checked out today and all was tight -- except for the left tie rod lock nut, which the aligners did not secure!

Still is not as tight as I would like, with about a half-inch to three-quarters of an inch of play from left to right of center. I am still thinking steering rack bushings since their condition cannot be determined visually.
