My advice is, once you get the tensioner unloosed all the way, don't mess with it..regardless of whether or not you can slide to the ends. Or else you will be where I am on post #1..where can I buy a new plastic tensioner thing (which i ordered at classic mercedes for like $1.60 today!).
Per the instructions, I used a 6" clamp but it wasn't wide enough to accommodate the pulley shaft and the backing plate. Speaking of this step, is there a trick to getting this thing mashed back together? I have an 8" clamp now but can't seem to compress the cap down to where it needs to be to install the spring clip.
My shaft is moving in and out. I've put the pulley back on and the bolt to keep it from pushing against the innards and essentially pushing the back plate out. Does anyone have a diagram of the innards? I'm thinking I may have assembled the inside incorrectly??
