In case of
FIRE screw it ~ a chair through the window and out you go ~ smoke inhalation overcomes most who die in house fires, one breath and you're not likely to make it to the door much less the hallway, porch or other safety .
I'd go out starkers if I had to, better to be freezing my bum in the street with the neighbors laughing than dead or on oxygen for the rest of my miserable days .
For those who don't know : in house fires, the heat and smoke starts at the ceiling and comes _down_ rapidly ~ one of our teenage Foster boys burned us out of our house December 20th 2017, we're still in a rental, they're working on the house, no burn damage just heat and smoke ruined _everything_ in it, in less than 5 minutes .
Luckily they listened when I'd told them to grab the baby and GET OUT ~ the house was full of heat & smoke in about two minutes, melted everything from 5' up .
We had to open it to the studs for repairs .
