This is where a screw puller comes into play. Slide hammers produce far less force than one would expect.

a screw type setup can apply magnitudes more force than a hammer setup - e.g. removing and installing ball joints or wheel hubs etc.

I have seen a shop remove the injectors from a BMW DI engine, they used a a setup which screwed on the injectors then used the cylinder head surface butted with steel pads as the reaction base to lift up the injector from the head.
