If you don't have a trans jack and a lift, a diy trans replacement is a challenge. I did them balancing the tranny on a floor jack and on my back when I was younger and farting around under the car was easier. But looking back on it, ugh. $750 or $1000 labor charge it seems worth it.

On the topic of the 124/210/211, I've had three 124s (603) and am restoring one now and when they're good, they're great. My 210 was a disappointment since it rusted badly but mechanically it was a good value. I absolutely love the 211. It is a fine driving machine and one of the most comfortable cars I've ever driven and much like a well maintained 124. She is now at 135k miles and I'm planning to drive her a few more years.
