Do you have a clamp on amp meter? Clip it to the battery wire on the alternator and see if there is a draw with engine off. You could also use a metal object placed on the pulley shaft / rear of alternator to check for magnetism. Alternator output diodes can fail and allow the stator to draw power. I have had alternators with intermittent draws before.
