Sort of, a major / fast leak won't cause damage unless the engine is run for long periods of time after the car stops moving. ( the front pump bushing / converter hub will suffer. )

A long slow leak will cause trans damage because it will still drive but shifts will be soft / drawn out due to low line pressure.

The car needs to go to a non chain store mechanic familiar with transmissions. ( does not need to be a Mercedes person. )
