In my case it was a band-aid for air ingress issues, even with a brand new OE drilled OFV. I never found the air ingress source, but the spring style valve kept the rack full of fuel when sat. I freely admit it was a band-aid fix, but it worked to solve the problem I was having. I have the brand new OE drilled OFV mentioned above installed on my 350SD with 0 issues.
