And then we are also separated by time. Up until a couple hundred (less) years go there were no radio waves eminating from this planet. I gather than about 2 to 10 light years out such wave turn to white noise anyway.
And if an advanced species chanced through here a few hundred million years ago, life was what, primitive organisms in the oceans? There are just so many stars out there and I suspect most of them don't have a planet with liquid water.
