I know a woman at my dog park who works at a shelter. You'd think she would have more sympathy, but not at all. Here's what she said me the other day:

Most homeless people in Southern California (85%) are addicts who move here to live outside, pan handle the bleeding hearts that live here, eat junk food, and shoot up.

The remaining 10% are people who need to be institutionalized for mental health issues and the remaining 5% are people truly down on their luck.

You'd be surprised how often homeless people turn down help. She goes to a lot of them, points them out to a shelter, and then they run away. The shelters have a no drugs/alcohol policy. The people who end up in these shelters are the ones who are down on their luck.

She's got a lot of stories like this and it frankly turned me from a ,"we need to help them" to, plow down the tents, stop reviving frequent ODers, and make up some BS safety law making loitering on off ramps illegal.

Help those who need real help and push out those who can't handle their drugs.
