I stepped on a screw a couple of months back while wearing regular old, slightly worn gym shoes of some sort. Somehow a 1-1/4" drywall screw landed on its head on a stairway I had just taken some stuff down. It was half of an oven/microwave cabinet mount combo I took down an outdoor stair on a handtruck. How a screw like that fell out of it, and somehow landed exactly wrong baffles me. I went back up, and carried something down and stepped on it. Holy chit that caused me grief for a couple of weeks. Limping hard. Those things can be really sharp, one of the black ones. And this one had the approx 1/2 inch of thread on the tip stripped off, as if it had been forced into a steel hole it wasn't meant for, but still needle sharp on the tip.

Worst nail-like item stepping on ever.

The shoes do seem dicey, I will agree. But Kevlar sole, who knows, might work.
